We do! And so do you, if you eat our soups.
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded Great Taste awards for two of your favourite soups. Much loved Big Green ‘cream of courgette and spinach’ and ever-popular Roast Cauliflower and Cumin with Toasted Almonds have both been given a gold star by the Great Taste awards.
An extra ‘well done’ goes to one of our newest soupmongers, Audrey, who made the Big Green that was submitted and went on to win the award.
Even if you’re unfamiliar with the Great Taste awards, you’ll probably recognise their logo. And if you’re a bit of a foodie, you’ll know them as a sign that you’re on to a good thing with what you’re about to purchase. The awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and are seen as a benchmark for high quality food and drink. 10,000 products were submitted by a myriad of food producers in 2014, each hoping to secure the “epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize.”
The Big Green is one of Union’s longest standing soups – it’s been on the menu since the cafe first opened back in October 2011. Before she opened the shop, Elaine had made it for a group of weekly soup tasters to try. They loved the flavour but felt the name ‘cream of courgette and spinach’ was less appealing. And so the Big Green was born.
We’re proud to add our two new gold stars to the ones we got last year, for our Sweet Potato, Coconut and Tamarind and for Soup of the Arabian Nights ‘exotically spiced lentil and coconut.’ All four soups feature on our menu as often as possible, and today you can enjoy the Roast Cauliflower and Cumin. Whilst it lasts, of course…
